Palästina We thus come to the place which was once upon a time a flourishing village, but which now is in a most wretched con dition, Endor in the land of Manasseh. The only things worth seeing are a few caverns, which have been used as tombs. It was one of these Saul visited on the eve of the battle of Gilboa, and saw the shade of Samuel the prophet, whom the witch of Endor is said to have called out from the grave. Saul was not very successful after that visit. The following day he lost the battle of Gilboa. There is a road leading directly from this place to Mt. Tabor, which we will visit next
