Texte au verso : A market day at Luxor would be a pleasant diversion after a lengthy stroll among the solemn temple ruins. The variety of the scene would have a certain charm. The large field is covered with a bustling crowd of white-robed sons of Islam, and darkly dressed Coptic Christians, who have assembled to buy and sell and change their commodities. Hundreds of stalls, where the products of the field and other useful things are sold, meet our eyes everywhere. Thousands of cattle, cows and buffaloes, donkeys and camels, fill the field, while excited merchants and interested purchasers are squeezing their way throught this mass of living creatures. These market days make the establishment of regular stores superfluous, for then the people buy up at once whatever they need, and besides they have a good time by the social intercourse this institution offers them. 9757 Mercato generale, Luxor, Egitto.
